Tips on Applying Bella & Birch Possibilities:
Yes, but this may require more work to sand the additional seam overlaps. Additional steps may be required. See "References: Redecorating over Bella & Birch" in the "How-to" section for details.
- Create a plan prior to starting, draw or sketch out your ideas
- Practice on throw away materials to get a feel for applying. Bella & Birch can be easily repositioned within a few minutes (Provided that the protective film has not been removed.) Note different surfaces will give different textures.
- Use a level and plumb line to ensure straight lines (especially when doing stripes)
- Do not use a chalk line as it will affect how Bella & Birch applies to the wall
- Only use pencil to mark lines
- Do not use a chalk line as it will affect how Bella & Birch applies to the wall
- To help prevent wrinkles use smaller pieces
- To cut out shapes, use a craft cutting mat with the protective film still on the product
- Check to ensure Bella & Birch will not stick to cutting mat and that cutting mat is clean to avoid debris sticking to product
- Create templates (or use stencils) for repeating designs to help with consistency and design
- When applying multiple layers of Bella & Birch (i.e. Bella & Birch on top of Bella & Birch), you need to allow for 2 week curing time between layers. This will help to eliminate bubbles and wrinkles from forming
- Scuff sand areas of overlap, damp wipe and allow to completely dry. Scuff sanding will help with repositionability and preventing wrinkles and bubbles from forming when the second layer of Bella & Birch is applied on top.
- To avoid multiple layers, create a pattern or drawing on the wall and fill in with different colors or patterns as needed, i.e. paint-by-number
- When creating Stripes
- We recommend only striping in the available dimensions (2", 6"and 12"). Do NOT try to cut your own stripe dimensions.
- In order to ensure straight lines, we recommend using 24" to 36" sections (do not try to put the entire stripe up all in one piece; this will create wrinkles).
- For vertical stripes, start at the ceiling / wall junction (top of wall) and work your way down the wall (in sections).
- For corners, the 2" Detailer roll must be used
